When COVID-19 lockdowns began in March 2020, Natalie and her friend Arya began brainstorming ways to bring their undergraduate honors community together online. Amid a myriad of ideas, they jokingly suggested starting a podcast.
Seven months and a few business proposals later, they recorded their first episode with the first crew of “The Unfinished Mind.” Made of 10 Polymathic Scholars*, the crew of scriptwriters, sound technicians, hosts, and managers aired their first season of 20 episodes.
Under her tenure as producer, Natalie and her team created 43 episodes across two years with topics ranging from “Austin’s Past”, “American Life is a Highway”, “Parasocial Relationships”, “The Invention of Time and More”, and “Why Are There Faces Everywhere?”. By the end of her tenure on the show, the podcast was reaching 194 different listeners each week and having 94 dedicated followers; Natalie, in particular, learned and exercised skills in team management, audio editing, and social media marketing.
Now, The Unfinished Mind has been passed off into the hands of current Polymathic Scholars at the University of Texas at Austin, who will be starting the sixth season of the podcast in late Fall 2025.
*The Polymathic Scholars is an honors program in the College of Natural Sciences at the University of Texas at Austin. It is focused on multidisciplinary studies and encourages students to “follow their curiosity.”
